The Minibus driver awareness scheme (MiDAS) is a nationally recognised standard for the assessment and training of minibus drivers. The MiDAS membership based scheme was originally developed by Hampshire council and is now managed by the community transport association.
MiDAS is aimed at any organisation running minibuses whether that may be as a service or to transport their own people. Most reputable taxi firms will have all their minibus drivers trained and assessed to prove competence and comply with specific contracts. In addition to the obvious transport companies many schools, colleges, universities, large organisations and local councils will have their staff trained and assessed on a regular basis.
While the qualification is still currently voluntary many contracts with schools, hospitals and charities now make MiDAS qualification mandatory.
Drivers who successfully complete the MiDAS assessment and training will receive a nationally recognised certificate from the training provider which is valid for four years.
To gain certification you will need to be trained and assessed by an authorised DAT (Driving Assessor/Trainer) who can then provide the certificate once the driver has met the current MiDAS standards.
MiDAS training will cover:
Legal Responsibilities of a Minibus Driver
Child Passenger Safety
Manual Handling Awareness
Health & Safety Awareness
Accident & Emergency Procedures
Personal Safety for Drivers
This course can be delivered in our Team Valley Training Centre, at your premises or at an agreed suitable location. Note: You will need to provide a suitable vehicle for the driver assessment
Number of Delegates
The number of delegates depends upon the venue and the number of DATS we provide to carry out the assessments. A general rule is between 5-7 delegates per course so please get in touch to discuss your specific requirements.
Certification / Qualification
Delegates are required complete an assessment and receive training to ensure they meet specific standards. Once these are met a nationally recognised certificate will be issued which is valid for 4 years.
